A brief history of the class
The Quarter Ton Class originated from the International Offshore Rule (IOR) in the 1960s . After its decline in the 1980s, there was a revival in 2005.
Peter and Louise Morton have played a pivotal role in the revival and success of the Quarter Ton Class. In 2003 Morty, along with Tony Dodd, reminisced about their early days in the Quarter Ton Class. This reflection led to the idea of reviving the class, culminating in the inaugural revival Quarter Ton Cup in June 2005, which attracted fourteen boats despite challenging weather conditions.
Since then the class has gone from strength to strength attracting great sailor and providing close racing.
